Brooch

This piece explores the stillness that comes from slow processes and how our creative skills and mind require time to master. 

As a technique it is an ongoing body of work in my exploration of movement in metal. It introduces radial effect to achieve the movement of metal contrasted by the black jade. The piece plays with the symbolic value of ‘preciousness’ by putting gold at its centre stage and using stone to house the metal which is often the reverse way of creating jewellery.

The brooch is entirely handcrafted. Clear quartz has been carved as thinly as possible to mimic the effect of a reverse watch mechanism. Each wire is meticulously soldered in place to create the radial effect.
